Google Goes Into Browser War with Chrome!

September 3rd, 2008

Just now Google released it’s New Web Browser called “Chrome” .Obviously, it’s in beta. The current version is 0.2.149.27 . Oh btw, it is not joke. It’s neither Google’s or my joke. It’s serious. I’ve been waiting since I read about Chrome on Google’s Blog.

Okie, the first look of Chrome is impressive (at least for me ;) ). It’s clean and sleek. One distinguished feature is it’s Tabs. Tabs of Chrome are upwards (which is on the navigation bar) while the other browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer have downwards tabs. I just got installed it like.. 5 mins only so what I’ve found out so far is,

  • Clean look and feel
  • Tabs are different
  • Currently works only on Windows (XP & Vista)
  • Bookmarks and Settings can be imported. (From Firefox and IE)
  • Works well with Burmese Fonts (Tested with Zawgyi & Myanmar 3)
  • Chrome uses new and powerful JavaScript engine called “V8″
  • Quick access feature (Similar to Opera’s Quick Dial)
  • Google Gear Integrated
  • Task Manager
  • Incognito
  • A javascript console.

But I didn’t find something like Addon or Plugin yet. Yep but it’s still in beta so we can expect a lot more.

Okie. That’s what I noticed so far now (will update if I found new). If you want to get into deails, you can read on Google’s blog or Chrome’s Page. Below are the few screen shots of Chrome.

Update: Chrome have some new features called Task Manager, Incognito and Javascript console. Task Manager is like Windows Task Manager which allows you to manage processes. Incongnito is like a privacy filter for data sensitive site such as Online Banking. If you are browsing in Incongito, no history will be left behind. The last one is Javascript Console which is something similar to FireBug, Firefox’s plugin for web developers.

Update2: I cannot type burmese using Zawgyi in Google Search and Gmail. I can read the fonts though. But GMail chat is ok with Zawgyi. That’s weired.

i’ve found a few bugs with chrome. they are small but i can overlook ‘em. i’m using chrome as my main browser and firefox as secondary due to all the plugins. i’ve completely dropped IE.

For me, Firefox is the primary and Chrome is secondary. If Chrome supports plugins, I’ll definitely use it as primary.
